Pinewood Derby Guideline

BSA Pinewood Derby Rules:

    Each car is inspected at weigh-in for the following inspection points:

• The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
• The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 3/4 inches.
• The car must have 1 3/4” clearance between the wheels.
• The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body so it does not rub on the track.

• The car weight shall not exceed 5.0 ounces.
• The official race scale that is used at car check-in shall be considered final.

 Wood, Wheels and Axles

• The official pine wood block must be used. The block may be shaped in any way that is desired.
• Official BSA wheels must be used.
• The axles may be altered, polished and lubricated.
• Only axles (nails) provided in the official BSA kit are allowed. no speed axles.   Don't break a young boys heart by not allowing him to race.  It happens every year and this rule is stricktly enforced.

• Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited
• The car must not ride on any type of springs
• No starting devices. The car must be freewheeling.
• No loose material of any kind.
• No part can extend forward of the center front of the car body.
• No liquid lubricants.  Dry lubes only.  IE Graphite or teflon...etc

Misc.

• Race official decisions are final.
• The car will be checked in on Friday.
• The car will remain in the custody of race official until all races are completed.
• Racers cannot modify cars after check-in. 
• Race officials may allow minor (Necessary) repairs before or during the race.

• Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place overall.
• Pins and ribbons will be awarded
• Participation ribbons for everyone entering a car

PLEASE NOTE!!!!!   

• Siblings and adults are strongly encouraged to participate! 
• There will be seperate race divisions for Scouts and Non Scouts.
• Enter more than one car if you like
